Gene Roger Magner was born on September 13, 1941 on the family farm near Newfolden, the son of Glen and Agnes (Skadsem) Magner. Gene’s parents affectionately named him after Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, popular actors at the time. As a young boy he attended the Goodwill School in New Main Township and went on to attend school in Newfolden.
Gene loved the farm and spent his life living and working there. Throughout the years he tended to the farm animals and farmed oats, corn, and hay.
Gene was a well-known man around his hometown, making friends wherever he went. He had a great memory, which his family relied on for information. Gene enjoyed hunting, farming, going to rummage sales, watching TV, and visiting with friends and family. He was especially proud of his nieces and nephews.
Gene is survived by his brothers Gaylord Magner of Newfolden, MN and Don (Bonnie) Magner of Thief River Falls, MN; sister Opal (Gary) Tanner of Middle River, MN; sister-in-law Joyce Jorgenson of Newfolden, MN; aunt Lucille Skadsem of Thief River Falls, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
