Filmore Durrette McBride was born July 8, 1936 at Fort Collins, CO, the son of Delbert William and Selma (Reichel) McBride. His parents both died when Filmore was young. He then started staying with various family members. He attended school at Fort Collins, Laurel, MT, Sterling, CO and high school at Riverside, CA. Filmore served his country in the United States Army for 6 years, attaining the rank of Tank Commander. He was honorably discharged in 1964. He found land in the land catalogs near Middle River, MN, where he farmed, after moving to Minnesota in 1969.
On May 12, 1961, Filmore was united in marriage to Helga Luise Flory. The couple met in Texas and married while he was in service. Upon his discharge from the service, they lived in California. In 1969, when they moved to Minnesota, they farmed, raised beef cattle and raised small grain. He also painted houses for a while, then bought the B&M Feed Mill in Thief River Falls and later sold his share. His whole purpose was to start the farm. Filmore then owned and operated McBride Insulation, a foam insulation company in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He retired from farming in 2004.
Filmore was an avid fisherman, who especially liked ice fishing and taught his boys to hunt. His farm was his love.
