Elphie E. Adlis, the daughter of the late John and Linda (Lofgren) Hegstrom, was born on Sept. 27, 1920, on the farm in West Valley Township of Marshall Co., near Strandquist, MN. She grew to womanhood there and attended the former Sunnyside School near her home.
On Feb. 8, 1941, Elphie was united in marriage to Joseph Adlis at the Salem Lutheran Church parsonage, near England Store. The couple lived and farmed in the Strandquist area for many years. Joe passed away Dec. 19, 1974, and Elphie continued her home on the farm until failing health caused her to move to the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Sept. of 2005. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Karlstad and of the Strandquist Senior Citizens Group. Elphie loved to cook and bake for her family, and hunting seasons and Christmas were always goose with potato dressing, a Lithuanian dish.
She passed away peacefully at the Karlstad Healthcare Center on Wed. morning, July 22, 2015, at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 25 days.
She is survived by one son: Stanley Adlis, of Strandquist; five daughters: Linda Adlis, of Argyle, MN, Joyce (George) Wikstrom, of Karlstad, Betty (Michael) Johnson, of Warroad, Jan Hilton, of Homestead, FL, and Kim Kraft, of Minot, ND; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Berdell Katsanes, of San Francisco, CA, in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
