Orville Larson, 82, Holt, MN, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, after a long battle with Parkinson’s.
Orville Larson was born on March 21, 1927 in Marshall County to Ludovic and Gunda (Moe) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. Orville attended country school near Holt, MN and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Air Force and served his country honorably from 1951-1955. On May 7, 1955 Orville was united in marriage to Yvonne Carol Haagenson. Orville was a rural mail carrier and grain farmer for many years. He retired from the Postal Service in 1989. Orville enjoyed reading, spending time with his grandkids, and drinking coffee with the boys at the Nu Moon Café in Newfolden. He was a big fan of the Twins and the Vikings despite the year they were having. He was known as “Grandpa” by many foster kids that he and Yvonne cared for over the years. Orville was active in the Holt Town Board, the Holt School Board, the Rural Letter Carrier’s Association, and he was a member of the American Legion. He was also an active member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church serving on the council and teaching Sunday School.
