Louie Kuznia, 89, of Warren, MN, passed away on early Friday morning, December 31, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with his wife and five children by his side.
Louie was born on February 10, 1921 at Florian, MN, the son of Peter and Agnes (Swapenski) Kuznia. He was raised in the Florian area where he attended school. Louie was in the US Army from 1942-1945 and he served under General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge. On June 11, 1946, he married Gertrude Woinarowicz. They made their home in rural Marshall County until they moved into Warren in 2008.
Louie was involved in all aspects of farming throughout his life. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and it’s Men’s Club. Louie was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Warren American Legion Post #27 and the VFW.
Louie enjoyed working in his yard and garden, watching CNN for current affairs and woodworking.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 64 years, Gertrude; five children, Ron (Carole) Kuznia of Grand Forks, ND, Phyllis (Henry) Hammerback of Bemidji, MN, Donna (Sid) Brouse of Thief River Falls, MN, Marilyn (Arlyn) Stroble of Angus, MN and Curt (Fay) Kuznia of Olivia, MN; thirteen grandchildren, David (Tami) Kuznia, Thom (Shannon) Kuznia, Jerrod (Joy) Hammerback, Jason Hammerback, Justin (Heidi) Hammerback, Jeff (Lesley) Brouse, Tom (Kari) Brouse, Tiffany (Rob) Stock, Damon (Ashley) Stroble, Kelsey (Ryan) Svoboda, Nicole (Zak) Kustok, Lindsay (Dan) Buchholz and Ben Kuznia; nineteen great-grandchildren, Zachery Kuznia, Kendra Kuznia, Casey Hammerback, Conner Hammerback, Nate Hammerback, Reagan Hammerback, Brooklyn Brouse, Jaxon Brouse, Hudson Brouse, Caleb Cobb, Tyler Brouse, Riley Brouse, Kaylee Stock, Taden Stock, Chandler Stroble, Hanna Stroble, Tristen Stroble, Caden Svoboda and Max Buchholz; siblings, Chester Kuznia, Daniel Kuznia and Matt (Geri) Kuznia all of Stephen, MN and Clara Yogoda of Duluth, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Kate Elise and siblings, Alozy, Frank, Roman, Eddie, Leonard, Regina and Robert.
