Archie Eugene Knutson. the son of the late Elling and Josephine (Luthen) Knutson, was born on November 11, 1908, in Moose River Township, Marshall County, near Gatzke, Minnesota. He attended school and grew to manhood there, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On August 20.1939, Archie was united in marriage to Alvira May Syverson at Mclntosh, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the couple resided in the Gatzke and Middle River communities prior to moving to their farm in Como Township, Marshall County, near Thief Lake. Alvira passed away February 24, 1951, and Archie continued to make his home on the farm. He was a long-time member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, and served on the church council. He also served on the Como Town Board and on the former “Shady Nook” school board. Archie moved into Middle River in 1973, and was an avid gardener. Every summer he had a large and beautiful garden including a raspberry patch that was shared with many people. He also was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed fishing with friends over the years. Since February of 1994, he has resided at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls where he passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 23, 1996, at the age of 87 years. 6 months, and 12 days,
Archie is survived by three daughters: Jeanette Knutson, Gross Point Woods, Michigan; Judy Kaml, Middle River; and Kathy Knutson-Huber (Joe), West Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren: Eugene, Clark, Craig. Kristin, and Quentin Kaml, and Monica and Monty Nelson; 2 great-granddaughters: Kayla Kaml and Katelyn Nelson, in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one infant son, two sisters: Mabel Opdahl and Florence Peterson, two brothers: Lloyd and Walter, and one half-brother: Theodore.
