Kilen, Alfred Roger (1933-2003)

Funeral services for Alfred Roger Kilen, 70, Thief Lake, Minn., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Thief Lake.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service Friday, Sept, 12, 2003 and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, all at the Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River, and at the church one hour prior to the services Saturday. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444.

He had been in failing health for the past year, and pased away peacefully at his home on Tuesday evening, Sept. 9, 2003. He was born Sept. 5, 1933 the son of the late Alfred and Myrtle (Johnson) Kilen at Greenbush, Minn. He attended school and grew to manhood in Whiteford Township of Marshall Co., near middle River, and graduated from Middle River High School in 1951. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Thief Lake, where he was a life-long member. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956, then worked in Milwaukee, Wis. for a year. On April 8, 1960, he was united in marriage to Sharon (“Dowie”) Olberg at Thief River Falls and they have since made their home on the Farm in Whiteford Township. He was a member and Past Commander of the Middle River American Legion Post #444, and held various other offices. He served on the Whiteford Town Board, the Our Saviors Church Council, and also was involved in the farm management program the Thief River Falls A.V.T.I.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (“Dowie”); four sons: Bruce of Las Vegas, Nev., Greg (Carol) of Warren, Minn., Doug (Cindi) of Thief River Falls, and Brad of Middle River; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Donnie of Middle River, Wayne (Shirley) of Holt, Minn., and Joe (Lindee) of Middle River; three sisters, Marilyn Shalloe, Hibbing, Connie (Gene) Folden and Edith Zahn, both of Newfolden, Minn.; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
