Agnes (Peggy) Acker – 98, of Stephen, Minnesota, died Friday, March 24, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, Minnesota.
The former Agnes Torgerson was born on January 19, 1902, at Stephen, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Gina (Nelson) Torgerson. She grew up on the family farm and received her early education at Stephen and graduated from the Agriculture College at Crookston, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Rasmussen at Stephen, Minnesota. She was employed as a telephone operator in Stephen and also managed the hotel. Peggy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and cleaning. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Stephen. Peggy later married Walter Acker at Crookston, Minnesota, and made their home there. Walter died in the early 1970’s. Peggy remained in Crookston for a few years and moved back to Stephen. In November of 1993 she moved to the Good Samaritan Center at Warren.
Family members include a son, James “Bud” Rasmussen (Delores) of Austin, MN; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Brink of Sacramento, CA; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Torgerson of Stephen, MN; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Gina Torgerson; husband, Walter Acker; a daughter Audrey Carl; a brother, Erling Torgerson;, 3 sisters, Molly Hvidsten, Ida Aaker, and Selma Harden; as well as an infant sister, Emma Torgerson.
