William Alvin Jesme, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at the Roseau Area Hospital on Friday Evening, June 13, 1997, at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 24 days.
William Jesme, Jr., the son of the late William and Alice (Berg) Jesme, was born on March 19, 1939, at Wannaska, Minnesota. As a child, he moved with his family to Como Township of Marshall County, near Middle River, where he attended school and grew to manhood. “Junior” was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Thief Lake near his home. On July 22, 1961, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Tapa at Wannaska. Junior held various jobs in the area, including hauling milk, working on construction, and as a farm laborer in the area. He also worked as a bartender at the former Meadowbrook Ballroom near Middle River. He enjoyed fishing year around and deer hunting with friends and family.
He is survived by one daughter: Lila, Mrs Jay Mathieu, Thief River Falls; three sons, ElRoy (Tami), International Falls; and Mattthew, Ely; six grandchildren, Amanda, Kassondra, Merle and Marty Jesme, and CharLee and Guthrey Mathieu; one brother, Floyd (Janis). Thief River Falls; five sisters, Frances, Mrs. Paul Cwikla, Millie, Mrs. George Hill and Madelyn, Mrs. Vernon Skoglund, all of Middle River, Beverly Lambert, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Marion, Mrs. Howard Conkey, Troy, Mihigan; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dwayne in 1980 and one sister, ELvelyn in 1930.
