Alfred Hvidsten, age 95, died Thursday, September 7, 1989, at Sun City, Arizona.
Alfred was born to the late Olaf and Anna Hvidsten on June 1, 1894 in rural Stephen. He attended school in the Stephen area and at the Northwest School of Agriculture at Crookston, MN.
On March 10, 1920, Alfred was united in marriage to Mollie Torgerson at Stephen. Together they farmed in rural Stephen for many years. In about 1950, they retired from farming and moved into Stephen. Alfred, however, continued to be involved in the Potato Warehouse for many years. In about 1960, they began to spend the winter months in Sun City, Arizona and Alfred continued to live there until his death.
Alfred served on the Board of Directors of Concordia College of Moorhead, MN and was also a member of the Stephen Civic and Commerce, the Stephen American Legion, and the Farmers Co-op Elevator Board of Directors, of which he served as chairman. Alfred was a long time member of First Lutheran Church of Stephen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie, in 1972; his parents; one daughter; one grand daughter; and four brothers.
Alfred is survived by four children; Jean Eidsmoe of White Bear Lake, MN; Ralph and Earl of Stephen; and Gordon of Fargo, ND. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, four sisters; Margaret Lundeen and Theresa Hamnes, both of Stephen; Bertha Brown of Grand Forks, ND; and Hilda Thorson of St. Paul, MN; and one brother, Bert, of Bathgate, ND.
