Holmstrom, Gladys Myrtle (Knutson) (1916-2013)

Gladys Holmstrom, 96, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013 3 – 6 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Monday.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Reverend Ale Tulu Officiating.

Burial will be held at the Mamrelund Cemetery at Strandquist.

Gladys Myrtle Holmstrom was born November 9, 1916 daughter of the late Theodore and Carrie Knutson at Saum, MN. She attended rural school at Saum and later attended school Kelliher. She left home at the age of 13 and began working in homes as a house keeper.

On November 26, 1935 she was united in marriage to Ernest Leonard Holmstrom at Strandquist, MN. The couple made their home at Strandquist, she worked various jobs until Arctic Cat started in Thief River Falls where she worked until her retirement. The couple moved into Thief River Falls in 1962. Ernest passed away July 8, 1996 and Gladys continued to live in her home until a year ago when she entered the Thief River Care Center. Gladys enjoyed fishing, camping, was a great baker and enjoyed feeding people and working on puzzles in the paper.

She is survived by her daughter S. Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN; son R. Holmstrom of Thief River Falls, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Ernest; son-in-law Darrell; brothers and sisters Elling Knutson, Arthur Knutson, Alice Lattman, Guy Knutson, Mildred Dahl, Fred Knutson and Grace Quamme.
