Hill, George Raymond (1928-2015)

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thur. at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor Mark Matthews officiating. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Wed. with a 7 P.M. prayer service at Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River, and at the church one hour prior to services Thur. morning. Burial will be in Finnish Cemetery near Middle River.

George Raymond Hill, the son of the late Edward and Hilda (Wiessanon) Hill, was born on June 11, 1928, in Rollis Twp. Of Marshall Co., near Gatzke, MN. He grew to manhood in the Middle River community and was baptized in the Finnish Lutheran Church there and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. On Sept. 27, 1952, George was united in marriage to Mildred Jesme at First Lutheran Church. Shortly thereafter, they purchased their present farm in Cedar Twp. near Middle River. In addition to farming, George worked for the former Cedar Twp. Telephone Co., the former H & M Manufacturing Co. in Middle River building tanks and in 1960, began working road construction for William Jesme until 1966. He then started his own gravel hauling business and continued until retirement. He served faithfully for over 50 years on the Cedar Town Board, was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Thief River Falls Eagles. He loved deer hunting and playing banjo and guitar with several area bands in northwest Minnesota for over 50 years. He had been in failing health for the past several months and passed away at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls on Sat. evening, Aug. 29, 2015, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife, “Millie”; one son: Roger (Mary) Hill, of Montevideo, MN; one granddaughter: Michelle (Jeff) Kaercher, of Ramsey, MN; one grandson: Jason (Laurie) Hill, of Moorhead, MN; five great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Brandon and Savannah Kaercher, and Austin and Braydon Hill; in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Jim and Arne.
