Heaton, Emma Christina (Johnson) (1906-2002)

Emma Christina Heaton, 96, formerly Thief River Falls, died Sunday, December 29, 2002 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, MN.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2003, 11:00 AM at United Lutheran Church, Gatzke, MN with Rev. Sandra Hollands and Rev. Gary Heaton officiating. Burial will follow in Landstad Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2003, 5 – 8 PM at Johnson-Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls and on Thursday one hour prior to the service in the church.

Emma Johnson was born April 11, 1906 in Joliet, Illinois, the daughter of Hans Martin and Gerda Maria (Carlsdotter) Johnson. Emma, as a child, moved with her family to Newfolden, MN and later to Gatzke, MN. She attended school in Gatzke and was baptized in Joliet, IL and confirmed in Gatzke in the Lutheran faith. On November 24, 1930 she was united in marriage to Erwin St. Clair Heaton. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1947 and lived in Naples, Fl and Barnum, MN after retirement.

She enjoyed traveling to Sweden and Emma always had a great sense of adventure. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, canning, painting and knitting.

Emma is survived by four children; Elaine (Wilson B.) Wardwell, Carlsbad, NM, Wallace (Delores Kainz) Heaton, Thief River Falls, Dale (Alice) Heaton, Moose Lake, MN and Delores Long, Hallock, MN; grandchildren Alan Wardwell, Douglas Wardwell, Elizabeth Wardwell, Gary Heaton, Paul Heaton, David Heaton, Richard Heaton, Melinda Amiot, Stacia Gobel, Chris Huso, Matthew Heaton, Debra Ranum-Reese, Janet Koskela, Maureen Ranum, Charlotte Rolling, Paula Ranum and Robert Long; 38 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Erwin, parents, sister Hulda Johnson, brothers Carl, Gerhardt and Axel Johnson; grandson Rodney Heaton; great granddaughter, Alyson Gobel; daughter in law Patricia Heaton; aunts, uncles and cousins.
