Gilbertson, Lyle (1912-1999)

Lyle Gilbertson, 87, died Sunday, May 16, 1999 at his home in rural Holt.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt. Yvonne Larson will be the organist, and vocal music will be provided by Don Lunke. Casketbearers will be his grandchildren, Kelly Burger, Tara Nelson, Dawn Gilbertson, Randy Knutson, Shane Gilbertson and Chad Nelson. Burial will be in the Holt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 19) with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Lyle Gilbertson was born on April 20, 1912 in Fillmore county of North Dakota, the son of Christ and Hilma (Ellingson) Gilbertson. When he was young he moved with his family to Ruso, ND where he attended school. Lyle moved to Holt where he worked as a farm laborer and in construction.

In 1943 he was united in marriage to Olga Nelson. Lyle served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 in the 13th Armored Division during World War II.

He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, American Legion of Middle River and a lifetime member of the VFW in Thief River Falls.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Olga; two daughters, Karen (Wallace) Knutson of Kennedy and Cheryl (Barry) Nelson of Newfolden; three sons, Lyle Allan “Tobin” Gilbertson and DelRay Gilbertson, both of Thief River Falls, and Denny Gilbertson of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Hjalmer of California; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Edna Gonderman and Lillian Sorenson; and two brothers, Lewis and Clarence.
