Lyle “Tobin” Gilbertson, 67, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with his daughter by his side.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN, with Rev. Sheila Michaels officiating. Burial will be held at Holt Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.
Lyle Allan Gilbertson was born on February 7, 1945 to Lyle and Olga (Nelson) Gilbertson in Thief River Falls, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in Holt. He attended school and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1963.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy and was stationed in Viet Nam for some time.
After being Honorably Discharged from the Navy he returned home to Northwest Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Dianne Helgeland and to this union one daughter was born.
Tobin worked in several different places. He worked for the Pipeline for several years, the turkey plant, and with Dean Kaushagen for some years.
Tobin was a proud American who served in the color guard with the VFW in Thief River Falls. He has walked in many parades carrying the colors of our nation and stood at the graves of many fallen soldiers to honor the dead. He bartended at the VFW and also served as a trustee for many years. He was active in many other activities with the VFW and enjoyed pinochle and cribbage every Saturday, and doing crossword puzzles. Watching the Twins and Vikings was also a favorite pastime.
Tobin is survived by one daughter Dawn Gilbertson, Thief River Falls, MN, grandson Connor Hansen, Thief River Falls, MN, four siblings: Karen (Wallace) Knutson, Kennedy, MN, Delray (special friend Nancy) Gilbertson, Thief River Falls, MN, Cheryl (Barry) Nelson, Newfolden, MN, Denny Gilbertson, Thief River Falls, MN, mother of his daughter Dianne Gilbertson, Thief River Falls, MN, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
