Selvin Aase, 82, of Warren, MN, passed away on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his family.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1926 at home in Hoople, ND, the son of Edwin and Sophie (Holt) Aase. Selvin moved with his family when he was an infant to a farm by Pisek, ND. When he was 13, he moved with his family to Argyle, MN where he attended school. In 1944, Selvin enlisted in the US Army. He served in the Philippines and in Kentucky. He was discharged in 1946 and moved to Warren. In 1947, Selvin went to work for H & H of Fargo, ND where he painted houses, fixed windows, laid carpet and did linoleum and tile work. From 1953 – 1964, he drove truck for Fillipi Truck Lines and also farmed. In 1964, Selvin and his brother, Melvin started their own carpet laying business. On Nov. 5, 1983, he married Gladys Anderson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren. They made their home in Warren. Selvin retired from carpet laying in 1988. During retirement they kept busy with crafts, woodworking and travel until Gladys’s death on August 22, 2006.
Selvin’s number one priority was spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, fishing and camping. Selvin was a member of the American Legion Post #27, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a past member of the Warren Snowmobile Club. Selvin also volunteered at the Warren Food Shelf where he would help unload trucks.
Left to mourn his passing are his sister, Elaine Myrfield of Warren, MN; seven stepchildren: Donald (Susan) Anderson of Hallock, MN, Deborah (Darrell) Robinson of Ft. Smith, AR, Cheryl (James) Novak of Tabor, MN, Virlynn (Pete) Hanson of Warren, MN, Roberta (James) Stengl of East Grand Forks, MN, Ronald (Jill) Anderson of Warroad, MN and Jon (Patti) Anderson of Evansville, WI; seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Doris Aase of Warren, MN, Ellen Aase of Grand Forks, ND and Alice Ethier of Argyle, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; two brothers, Wallace and Melvin and sister, Ethel.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren, MN.
VISITATION: After 5:00 PM with a 6:30 PM prayer service on Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Warren and one hour before services on Wednesday.
INTERMENT: Greenwood Cemetery, Warren, MN.
