Dorothie J. Abrahamson, 83, of East Grand Forks, MN, formerly of Warren, MN and Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with family at her side.
Dorothie was born on January 28, 1931 in Warren, Minnesota, to Fred and Elizabeth (Stano) Abrahamson, and graduated from Warren High School in 1948. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She studied nursing in Las Vegas, where she worked as an LPN for a few years before returning to MN to work at the Warren Hospital. In 1955 she moved to Washington DC to start a new career as an airline stewardess with Capitol Airlines which later merged with United Airlines. Over the course of 23-years seeing the world as a stewardess, United twice recognized her as Stewardess of the Year. She retired from the airlines in 1978 to resume nursing in Alexandria, VA. She returned “home” to East Grand Forks 2 years ago
Dorothie never forgot her years growing up on the farm just west of Warren. She was an avid gardener. Even in the Washington DC area she was able to find room for a tomato plant. She loved to read, discuss politics and go on hiking/camping trips in the Appalachian Mountains. Her passion was for her poodles and she always had one or two living with her for companions.
Left to mourn her passing are siblings, Richard (Diane) Abrahamson and John (Nancy) Abrahamson all of Warren, MN, Betty (Eugene) Bengs of Thompson, ND and Fern Frothingham of San Antonio, TX and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Anna Mae Sletten, Donna Engelstad and Lillian Wilson.
Private family services will be held.
