Mabel “Mae” Alby, 95, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Northwest Medical Center, CNC Unit, in Thief River Falls, MN.
Mabel Thelma Thompson was born on October 14, 1908 in New Solum Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Arnt O. and Karine N (Nyhus) Thompson. Mae attended Holt School graduating from Holt High School in 1927. She was baptized into the Christian faith as an adult.
Mae was united in marriage to Lewis Alby on April 28, 1928 in Newfolden, MN. The couple moved to Thief River Falls in 1940. Mae raised a family and enjoyed being a homemaker. She had an active sense of humor which her family and friends cherished all of her life. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and cross word puzzles. Lewis died on September 4, 1981 and Mae continued to live in Thief River Falls.
Mae was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Mae is survived by five children: Darlene Olson of East Grand Forks, MN, Phyllis (Jack) Carlson of Duluth, MN, Karen (Larry) Gausen of Bemidji, MN, Lyle (Gina) Alby of Bloomfield, NM and Cynthia (James) Zacharias of Nicolette, MN; 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Torgrimson of Thief River Falls, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis; her parents; two sons: Robert Alby and Gerald Alby; two grandsons: Brian Alby and James Carlson; three brothers: Clayton Thompson, Arthur Thompson and Ben Thompson; and two sisters: Gladys Becker and Esther Alby.
