Anderson, Naomi Ilene (1942-2014)

Naomi Anderson,Thief River Falls, age 72, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will follow at Salem Church Cemetery, rural Stephen, MN.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Naomi Ilene Anderson was born on January 16, 1942 in Greenbush, MN the daughter of Ivar and Thelma (Gollnick) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Stephen, MN. Naomi attended Benson Country School for the first eight years in Augsburg Township, Marshall County, MN and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1959 and graduated from Moorhead State College in 1963 with an undergraduate degree in Biology. Naomi later earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University Of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND.

Naomi’s first teaching job was at Goodridge High School in Goodridge, MN. She worked as school librarian in Great Falls, MT, Menomonie, MI, Eden Valley, MN, and Mt. Iron, MN. She retired in 1982 because of a disability and returned to live with her parents in rural Stephen and Thief River Falls, MN. Since 2000 she has lived alone in Thief River Falls. Naomi has resided at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN since May of 2012.

Naomi was a very active member of Salem Lutheran Church in rural Stephen, MN and at the Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Music was a passion for Naomi which she enjoyed by accompanying her father when he sang and with Pastor George Davis when he would conduct services at nursing homes. Naomi wore out several Bibles. She also enjoyed collecting different items, reading poetry, and corresponding with relatives and friends. She never missed remembering a birthday.

Survivors include her brothers, Cecil (Maryel) Anderson of Thief River Falls, Quinton (Brenda) Anderson of Gilbert, AZ; sister, Marilyn (Darris) Johnson of Clearbrook, MN; nieces & nephews, Nicole (Neil) Peterson, Jon (Heidi) Anderson, Vanessa (Kaine) Martell, Lance (Kaylee) Johnson, Cody Johnson, Preston (Megan) Anderson, Miranda Anderson; 13 great nieces and great nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her mother on January 1, 1983; her father on December 29, 2000; twin sisters, Lorna and Lois Anderson.
