George B. Arnold, 63, of Moorhead, MN died peacefully on Wednesday February 13, 2008 in his home with family by his side under the care of Hospice and Home Instead.
George was born on May 22nd, 1944 in Duluth, MN to Clarence and Barbara Arnold. He spent most of his childhood years in Angus, MN and graduated from Warren High School in Warren, MN where he lettered in Baseball and Football. On November 9th, 1962, George married Janet Johnson and moved to Moorhead, MN where they raised four children together. Upon moving to Moorhead, George found employment as a Chef at the FM Hotel while attending Moorhead State University. He earned a Hotel Management Certification and was an Assistant Manager with Kahler Corporation. Shortly thereafter, George entered the insurance business as an agent with Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance Company based in Fargo, ND. George eventually opened his own agency and enjoyed a very successful 39-year career in the Insurance and Financial Planning industry. He was consistently a top producer for a number of Insurance companies and honored as “Man of the Year” for Pioneer Mutual Life several times throughout his career.
George’s true passions in life outside of Family were Hunting, Fishing, the competition of a good card or racquetball game and his faith. He enjoyed waterfowl, pheasant and deer hunting near Hawley, MN with a group of close friends for over 30 years and a hunting camp in Northern Minnesota shared with close relatives. George spent many enjoyable hours fishing for walleye on Big Cormorant Lake, Leach Lake and most recently near his lake home on Ten Mile Lake. George’s daily routine involved a game of racquetball with his regular group of friends at the YMCA of Fargo during his lunch hours. Thursday’s often meant a game of cards at the Moorhead Country Club. George and Janet enjoyed participating in numerous bridge clubs over the years.
George was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead and in recent years worshipped during the summer months at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker, MN. He enjoyed participating in a Trinity Lutheran Church small group along with 4 other couples that were considered dear friends. George loved and was loved by his family and will be sorely missed by them all. Family gatherings will not be the same without his endearing personality and zest for life.
George was a past member of Sertoma Club and an active member of FM Area Chamber of Commerce, Moorhead Spud Booster Club, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
George is survived by his wife, Janet, four children, Cendee (Todd) Palmer, Naperville, IL; Kirk (Christy) Arnold, Flower Mound, TX; Penny Falconer, Savage, MN; Josh (Margo) Arnold, Moorhead, MN; three sisters Connie (Don) Omdahl, Thief River Falls, MN; Jacalyn Lee, Mesa, AZ; Sandra (Peter) Hapka, Warren, MN; one sister-in-law, Judy (Gene) Dallmann, West Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren, Allie, Jake and Paige Palmer; Eddy, Emily and Evan Arnold; Wyatt and Luke Falconer; Jack and George Arnold; many nieces and nephews; and special neighbors Stan and Margie Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward Arnold.
