Bennie A. Baker, 52, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at his home in Windsor, CA.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Benny Baker obit p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2000 at Green Funeral Home Chapel in Thief River Falls with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Margie Iverson will be the organist, and Joel Kezar will be the soloist. Casketbearers will be Joe Cullen, Mark Harder, Rodney Harder, Jamie Harder, Lynn Baker and Mike Cullen. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery in Excel township of Marshall county.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, from 3 to 8 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls. A prayer service will be held on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
Bennie Alvin Baker was born on August 12, 1947 in Thief River Falls, the son of George Sr. and Mary Baker. He was baptized and confirmed at Silver Creek Lutheran Church. He attended Silverton School 42 in Silverton township of Marshall county and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.
Following high school, Bennie served in the U.S. Navy for several years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Thief River Falls where he worked for his dad for a short while, operating heavy equipment. He later moved to California where he has lived for the past 30 years, working as a heavy equipment operator for road construction and vineyard maintenance.
Bennie is survived by one daughter, Stacy (Keith) Hovelson of Ramsey; two sons, Tony Baker of Thief River Falls and Monte Baker of Cheyenne, WY; two grandchildren; his mother, Mary Baker of Thief River Falls; two sisters, Donna (Wayne) Harder of Thief River Falls and Louise (Gaylen) Quam of Goodridge; one brother, George (Tess) Baker Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; two aunts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Robert Baker; one sister, Bonnie Mullen; and three nephews.
