Clara Bakke, 94, died Monday, December 21, 1998 at the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 26 at Bethania Free Lutheran Church, rural Newfolden, with Reverend LeRoy Flickinger and Irvin Schmitke officiating. Kelly Liedberg was the organist. Beth Nelson was the soloist, and a duet was presented by Eunice and Jared Liedberg. Casketbearers were Dwight Tangquist, Rodney Liedberg, Melville Bakken, Irvin Schmitke, James Engelsrud and John Hanson. Honorary casketbearers were all of her grandchildren. Burial was in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Clara Marie Engelsrud was born March 31, 1904 in Marsh Grove township of Marshall county, the daughter of Christian and Caroline (Lodoen) Engelsrud. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school in Marshall county.
On December 18, 1929 she was united in marriage to Bertil Bakke at Newfolden. The couple lived and farmed in Marsh Grove township, rural Newfolden. In January of 1945 they moved into Newfolden, and in 1963 they moved to Thief River Falls. Bertil died on June 26, 1983. On August 9, 1991 Clara moved to the CNC unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls where she has since resided.
She was a life-long member of Bethania Free Lutheran Church and served as the church organist from 1922 until 1929. She enjoyed tatting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Clara is survived by three daughters, Janette (Douglas) Weber of Newfolden, and Betty (Clarence) Amiot and Vernice Nelson, both of Thief River Falls; one son, Dennis (Joanie) Bakke of Thief River Falls; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertil; her parents; one son-in-law, Leo Nelson; one great-grandson, Joshua Nelson; and one brother, Conrad C. Engelsrud.
