Gary L. Becklund, 84, of rural Stephen, MN., died unexpectedly at his home on Thur., Jan. 15, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thur., Jan. 22, 2015, at the Collins Funeral Chapel in Karlstad with Pastor Mark Hanson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thur. Military honors will be accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post #445. Burial will be in the Salem Church Cemetery near Stephen.
Gary Louis Becklund, the son of the late Hans and Louise (Schmidt) Becklund, was born on August 13, 1930, near Karlstad, MN. He grew to manhood in Augsburg Township of Marshall Co. and attended country school near his home and at Stephen, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church near his home. Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and following his discharge, returned to the community. On February 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Orpha Qualley at Warroad. The couple lived and farmed in Augsburg Township for many years. Gary enjoyed tinkering, building things and could fix about anything in front of him. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 2 days.
He is survived by one son: Guy, of Champlin, MN; one step-son: Larry; one sister: Beverly (Roger) Pagnac, of Stephen; sister-in-law: Joanne Becklund, of Minneapolis; and four nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter: Ellen, one step-son: Leon, one step-daughter: Charlene, and one brother: Morris.
