Carl Berggren, 93, died on Friday, March 9, 2007 at Riverview Care Center in Crookston, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2007 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Greg Schramm officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Pennington County. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Carl Richard Berggren was born on November 8, 1913 on the family farm in Silverton Township, Pennington County the son of August and Helena (Johnson) Berggren. He was baptized and confirmed in the Augustana Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Carl helped on the family farm and eventually purchased his own land which he farmed for a number of years. He also worked for an elevator in Thief River Falls, MN.
Carl was united in marriage to June Ose on March 11, 1942 in Grygla, MN at the parsonage. They lived on their farm in Silverton Township and in the fall of 1942, Carl was drafted into the United States Army. In 1945 he was Honorably Discharged and returned to be with June on the family farm.
In 1956 Carl moved his family to Aurora, MN where he went to work in the taconite mines. They lived there until 1976 when they returned to Thief River Falls where they have continued to reside.
Carl enjoyed fishing and spending time at their cabin at Waskish. He also enjoyed hunting, and through the years he built several houses with his brother-in-law, Ken Ose. He was a very good carpenter. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Thief River Falls.
Survived by his wife of almost 64 years, June of Thief River Falls; son, Donald (Sylvia) Berggren of Aurora, MN; 3 grand daughters, Kristin, Maria and Anne; 4 great grandchildren, Garrett, Nicholas, Danielle, and McKenzie; sister, Ellen Newton of Thief River Falls; brother, Edwin (Thelma) Berggren of Thief River Falls; brothers and sister-in-law, Marjorie Tungseth of Minneapolis, Kenneth (Lillian) Ose of Thief River Falls, Glenn (Patricia) Ose of Coon Rapids, MN, Ray Ose of Chisago City, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alfin; sister, Gladys Sundt; 3 children, Helen, David and Marion.
