Luella Cerny, 93, died Monday, March 30, 1998 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 3 at St. Pauli Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, with Reverend Terri Skildum officiating. Gylfia Amundson will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Richard Bjorgaard, Mike Cerny, Rob Sando, Mike Lucht, Jerry Halvorson and James Amundson. Burial will in Greenwood Cemetery in Warren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 at the Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Luella Augusta Keefe was born on February 13, 1905 in McCrae township near Warren, the daughter of Thomas and Regina (Monroe) Keefe. Her family moved to Fosston and Glen Flora, WI where Luella attended schools.
Luella returned to Warren where she attended North Star College. She moved to Minneapolis and was a grocery store clerk for two years before moving home to help care for her parents and help in her family business. She was bookkeeper in Warren and Argyle for her father’s creamery.
While working in Argyle, she met her future husband and was united in marriage to Louis J. Cerny on February 24, 1929 at her grandparents’ farm in Warren. The couple lived in Argyle until moving to Thief River Falls in 1950. Louis died in May of 1982.
She was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church and was a former member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Argyle. Louella enjoyed music and was in the church choir and college quartet.
Louella is survived by three children, Deone Cerny of Thief River Falls, LoAnne (Leo) Lokken of Thief River Falls and “Ken” (Joyce) Cerny of Cloquet; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; her parents; one step daughter, Mayme Olson; and one brother, Chester Keefe.
