Ruth Ueland was born on January 16, 1916 at Newfolden, MN to Edmund and Martha (Nelson) Ueland. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Newfolden, MN and attended school in New Solum Township, Marshall Co., MN.
Ruth worked as a domestic on area farms until being united in marriage to Victor Ekman on June 10, 1932 in Warren, MN. The couple farmed in the Newfolden, MN area and moved to New Maine Township, Marshall Co., MN in September of 1945. The couple later moved to Argyl, MN where Victor worked as a mechanic. They later moved back to Newfolden, MN. Ruth loved to crochet and embroider, and was an avid reader.
Ruth moved into Valley Home in September of 1994 and then to Oakland Park. During her last 1-1/2 years, she resided in the CNC Unit at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. She died there on Sunday, December 15, 1996 at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 19 days.
She is survived by her daughters, Ardelle Waldron and her husband Harvey of Crystal, MN, and Virginia Hawk and her husband Dewayne of Centralia, WA; by her daughter-in-law, Alice Ekman, Denver, CO; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, son Richard in October 1971; three brothers: Ole, Edmund, and Norman; and five sisters: Rachel Hanson, Annie Ueland, Marie Owens, Mabel French, and Mayme Cullender.
