Sylvia Kjos Filipi, 84, of Warren, MN, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Sylvia Kjos was born at Grafton, North Dakota in May 10, 1926, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Kjos. She attended high school at Park River, and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. with degrees in Music, English, and Psychology. She taught in the public schools system in Warren, MN for thirteen years, in the Music and English departments. It was in Warren that she met and married her husband, Don Filipi, on May 28, 1955.
Music always played an important part in Sylvia’s life. She taught piano, directed high school choirs and church choirs for a number of years, and upon her retirement from teaching, she organized a group of “music lovers” from the community, which were known as “Allspice.” They entertained and functioned for nine years.
The Filipis bought a retirement home in Arizona where they enjoyed twenty-five winters. Sylvia also continued to accompany a Community Choir in Arizona for many years.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Don of Warren, MN; son, Dan (Sandy) Filipi and grandchildren, Danielle and Brooke, all of East Grand Forks, MN and a niece, Merry Beth Kjos (Roger Orchard) of Grand Forks, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Norman.
