Gunderson, Nels (1875-1945)


Funeral rites were held at Silver Creek Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon at 2′ o clock for Nels Gunderson, who died at his home in Agder twp. last Thursday at the age of 70 years. Mr. Gunderson, born in Brooten Sept. 21, 1875, was one of the very first settlers in Marshall county, homesteading there in 1898. Rev. E. O. Urness of Holt officiated at the services and the body was laid to rest in the Silver Creek cemetery.

Mr. Gunderson was married Oct. 13, 1901 at Grand Forks, N. Dak., to Bella Brokke, who survives him. He served as treasurer of Agder twp. for several years, and was a charter member of the Silver Creek Lutheran church, being a trustee for many years. Before coming to Marshall county, Mr. Gunderson, in 1891, entered Luther college at Decorah, Iowa, where he was a student three years.

Other than his wife, Mrs. Bella Gunderson of Agder twp., Mr. Gunderson is survived by six daughters and one son, Mrs. Peter Klungness of Marshall county, Erma Gunderson and Mrs. Ruby Beller of Berkely, Calif., Mrs. Harold Rasmussen of this city, Mrs. Thea Lundrigan of Pine River, Miss Nettie Gunderson of San Francisco, Calif., and Chester Gunderson of Pennington county; one sister, Mrs. Tone Moe of Brooten; a brother, Ole Gunderson of Corinth, N. Dak.; and ten grandchildren. Mr. Gunderson’s parents and two sisters, and three brothers preceded him in death.
