Funeral services for Blenda E. Hamberg, 62, of this city were held Monday, March 12, at 2 p.m., at the Salem Lutheran church near Stephen. Miss Hamberg died Thursday evening, March 8, at Northwestern Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past 1 1/2 years.
Rev. John F. Hamberg officiated at the services. Mrs. Casmir Troska was the organist and Mrs. Bruce Jensen, the soloist. Interment will be in the Salem church cemetery with the Collins Funeral home, Karlstad, in charge of arrangements.
Honorary pallbearers were Eskil Sjoblom, Hans Anderson, Harold Johnson, Reuben Gunderson, Ingvald Torgerson and Paul Carlson.
Serving as active pallbearers were nephews: Donald Merdink, Jr., Allan Jensen, William Hamberg, Leroy Hamberg, James Hvidsten and Ronald Jensen.
Blenda Eugenia Hamberg, a daughter of Gunda and Jons E. Hamberg, was born Aug. 26, 1916 in Nelson Park township, Marshall county, near Strandquist. She attended school and grew to women hood in the Nelson Park community, living on the family farm until 1960 when she moved to Grand Forks, N.D. There she was employed for nine years at Valley Memorial Home. She then came to Thief River Falls and was employed here for eight years at Arctic Enterprises, Inc.
She was a member of the Salem Lutheran church.
Survivors include her mother, Gunda Hamberg, Thief River Falls; three brothers: Nels Hamberg, Horace, N.D., Roy of Staples and Harry of Thief River Falls; five sisters: Nan Hamberg and Mrs. Orville (V.) Hvidsten, both of Thief River Falls, Mrs. Donald (Ann) Merdink and Mrs. Norman (Ruby) Jensen, both of Stephen, and Mrs. Larry (Grace) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 30 nieces and nephews and 39 grand-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, who died in 1959.
