Ellen Haugen, 84, of rural Stephen, MN, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Ellen Olson was born on December 23, 1926 in Wanger Township, Marshall County, MN, the daughter of Fred and Augusta Olson. She was a life long resident of Wanger Township. She attended District 50 country school. On November 23, 1948, Ellen married Norman Haugen at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Stephen. They made their home in Wanger Township where they farmed. They retired in 1996. Norman died on March 24, 1999.
She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and she was one of the caretakers of Wanger Baptist Cemetery.
Ellen enjoyed hunting, taking care of her farmyard and deer friends, knitting, quilting, crafting many things, attending her Bible Study group and visiting with her neighbors. She was know as the area “historian”.
Left to mourn her passing is a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Kathy Haugen of Alexandria, MN; three grandchildren, Steven (Stacy) Haugen of Eagen, Jason Haugen of Duluth, MN and Marie (Jeremiah) Swor of Alexandria, MN; three great-grandchildren, Zoe Swor, Paige Haugen and Eli Haugen; sister, Joyce Hunstad and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; daughter, Diane and three step-sisters.
