Funeral services for Dean Hemp will be held at 10 A.M. Wed., Oct. 28, at First Lutheran Church in Middle River with Pastor Mark Mathews officiating. Visitation will be after 6 P.M. Tues. with a 7 P.M. prayer service at Collins Funeral Chapel in Middle River and at the church one hour prior to services Wed. morning. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery near Middle River with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post #444.
Dean Ray Hemp, the son of the late Sylvester and Ellen (Rasmussen) Hemp, was born on July 3, 1948, at Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He grew to manhood in the Middle River community, graduated from Middle River High School in 1967 and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Middle River. Dean served with the U.S. Army and following discharge from service in May of 1970, returned to the Middle River community where he was employed in various construction jobs. He graduated from the Thief River Falls A.V.T.I. in auto mechanics. He was employed at Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls for 25 years. Since retirement he has resided at his home in Middle River where he passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer on Friday morning, October 23, 2015, at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 20 days.
He is survived by two sons: Davin (Becky) Veselka and Donavin Hemp, both of Thief River Falls; 6 grandchildren; two brothers: Ernest (Carol) Hemp, of Greenbush, and Sylvester “Bud” (Eileen) Hemp, of Middle River; one sister Eleanor Dahl, also of Middle River; companion: Lonnie Cummings, of Middle River, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
