Nancy Hess, 66, Argyle, MN, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
Nancy Lee Jensen was born on July 26, 1948, to Glen and Ruth Jensen, in Ladysmith, WI. Her father was a minister, and later a State Park manager, and she spent her childhood in several communities including Anoka, MN; Enderlin, ND; Two Harbors, and Glyndon, MN; and finally to rural Argyle near Old Mill State Park. Here, she met John Hess, whom she married on October 25, 1969.
Nancy and John moved near his parents and gradually took over the family dairy farm, where they worked side by side and raised four children. In 1990, Nancy went to work at Hardware Hank in Warren, MN, where she happily helped people for eleven years. In 1997, they sold their dairy cows. In 2001, she began working for the now Jim Dagg Insurance Agency, Warren, where she earned her insurance license.
Nancy served as the Foldahl Township clerk for 25 years, a Riverside 4-H leader, and an Alma Baptist Church officer for many years. Nancy was a lover of people. She always made time for everyone she knew—and she knew almost everyone! She never forgot a name, face, or phone number. She was always hospitable and welcomed extras to the table without hesitation. No one ever left hungry and the food was always good.
She loved to knit, and do activities in the great outdoors including picking wild berries to make jelly, and gardening and sharing produce. Nancy also enjoyed rides with John on their Polaris Ranger to look at wildlife and wildflowers nearly every evening in the summertime.
Nancy’s family was her most prized possession. She would always help her grandchildren with projects and she held together her extended family through annual campouts at State Parks throughout Minnesota.
Left to mourn her passing are her devoted husband of over 45 years, John; children, James (Ann-Marie) Hess of Sioux Falls, SD, Darla (James) Schroeder of Oriska, ND, Laura (Galen) Ronngren of Fargo, ND, and Allen (Shaina) Hess of Grand Forks, ND; 10 grandchildren; four siblings, Andrew (Judy) Jensen, Roger Jensen, Russell (LaDonna) Jensen, and Judy (Ron) Rood.
Memorials Preferred to Alma Baptist Cemetery Fund.
