Funeral services were held on Tuesday for Oscar Johnson, 71, pioneer of this community, who passed away June 29th.
Oscar Johnson was born in Ostmark, Varmland, Sweden, Nov. 8, 1880 to John and Christina Johnson. He came to America with his parents at the age of 2 years. They lived in Ottertail County for about two years and came to Holt Township in June, 1885 where he resided practically all his life. After the death of his father in 1899, he, together with his mother, cared for ten children all under his age. His mother often mentioned that if it hadn’t been for Oscar she would have been unable to keep her family together.
He had a kind and cheerful disposition, always eager to help where needed.
Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother, he is survived by 4 brothers and two sisters, Carl, Victor, Hjalmer and David of Seattle; Mrs. Ruth Wilson of Holt, Mrs. W. McMurray of Oregon, Clara, Mrs. C. Sagstuen, of Los Angeles and Lillian, Mrs. Wm. Johnson.
Pallbearers were Forrest, Donald and Frances Johnson, Milton Davidson and Boyd Wilson. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Vick sang and Rev. Myhrer and Rev. Vick officiated.
