Richard Lian, Middle River, MN died on January 30, 2014 at his rural Middle River Home.
Visitation will be held 2 – 4 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with a Memorial service at 4:00 PM with Reverend Craig Bowyer officiating. Burial will be held at Moose River Cemetery, Gatzke, MN.
Richard “Rick” Lian was born April 10, 1956 son of Erling and Mary Juliet (Finnerud) Lian at Minneapolis, MN. He was raised in Minneapolis attended school there and in 1970 moved with his family to Sunland, CA. Graduating from Verdugo Hills High School in 1974.
He was united in marriage to Sheila Miller to that union one son was born John Richard Lian. In 1984 he was united in marriage to Kim Miller in California. To his union two children were born Jesse James and Cassidy Jean. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1990. Rick owned and operated his own business working side by side with his son Jesse James, “Rick’s Handyman Service”, he could fix or repair just about anything.
Rick enjoyed pulling a good prank, fishing, hunting, shooting pool and bowling. He also enjoyed watching wildlife and birds from his rural Middle River home. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. Most of all he loved the time spent with his children and grandchild.
He is survived by his daughter Cassidy Lian of St. Hilaire, MN; son John Lian of California; grandson Brody Vennes and his father Jeff Vennes, stepson Joshua (Sheri) Huth of Thief River Falls, MN step-grandson Colton Huth. Father Erling Lian of Thief River Falls, MN; siblings Darrell (Deborah) Lian of Seattle, WA, Marilyn McKee of Thief River Falls, MN, Scott (Mary-Beth) Lian of Palmdale, CA, Mike Lian of Thief River Falls, MN; best friend Kimmer (Kirk) Benke of Middle River, MN; friend Norm Huth; aunts Grace Littlefield and Marvel (Arvin) Dahl; uncle Keith (Linda) Lian several cousins nieces and nephews.
Rick is preceded in death by his son Jesse James, mother Mary Lian, Uncles Kenny “Leroy” and Harvey Finnerud Willard Finnerud and Elmer Littlefield, aunt JoJean Ronspiez, grandparents.
