Dale Magner of Thief River Falls, MN age 99 died peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Greenleaf Assisted Living Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 5:00 PM service led by Pastor George Davis on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post #117 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793. Burial will be held at Opdahl Cemetery, Newfolden, MN.
Dale William Magner was born on June 18, 1915 in Oberlin, KS to Harve William and Bessie Elizabeth (Chilson) Magner. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith. He attended country school in Rawlins, KS then a couple of years of high school in Oberlin, KS. During the great depression, Dale worked in CC Camps in Minnesota and Kansas. He then moved with his family to Minnesota in 1934. At the end of WW II he was drafted in 1945 and served until July of 1946 in the US Army before many of the troops were returned home. Dale worked at Bridgeman Creamery for 32 years in Thief River Falls, MN, beginning in 1948.
Dale was united in marriage to Jeanette Blinsmon in July of 1938. They met at a country dance near Newfolden, MN, they were married for 62 years before her death in 2000.
He was a member of the American Legion Post in Newfolden and currently a member of the American Legion Post in Thief River Falls. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture and knick knacks.
Dale is survived by 3 children: Robert (Lois) Magner, Thief River Falls, MN, Darrell (Kathy) Magner, Meridian, ID, Julie (Rick) Claveau, Sun Praire, WI, 5 grandchildren: Kimberly (Dale) Martell, Thief River Falls, MN, Kelly (Tony) Haneca, Moorhead, MN, Chad Johnson, Rapid City, SD, Kari (Brian) Moyer, Thief River Falls, MN, Joshua (Kim) Cahalan, Denver, CO; great grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda, Gabrielle, Kendal, Karly, Ashlann, Ella, Kailey, 1 sister Lucille Skadsem, Newfolden, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, parents, 5 brothers Verl, Gaylord, Glen, infant Virgil, infant Lloyd, 2 sisters Mayme McLaughlin and Vera Pile.
