Peter Melin, 78, Dies in California; Rites Here Thurs.
Funeral services for Peter Melin, 78 years of age retired Warren businessman, who came to Marshall county as a boy in 1884, and died at Long Beach, California January 27, will be held at First Ev. Lutheran church here Thursday at 2 p.m. Rev. Walter E. Carlson, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Since his retirement from the automobile bus[illegible in 1938, Mr. Melin and his wife have spent most of their winters in California. They left here December 7 to spend the present winter int he warmer climate. About two weeks ago he was taken ill and went to a Long Beach hospital for treatment and while there he passed away a week ago.
Mr. Melin will lie in state at the Quanrud Funeral home until noon on Thursday.
Peter Melin died at Long Beach, Calif. on January 27, 1954, at the age of 78 years, 10 months, 16 days. He was born March 11, 1875 in Dalby, Vermland, Sweden. He came to this country with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Markus Melin when he was 9 years old. They settled on a homestead in the town of Foldahl, where he grew to manhood. He lived in Roseau and Lake of the Woods counties in Minnesota and around Scobey, Montana, before moving to Alvarado in 1917, where he was in the automobile business in the fall of 1922.
In 1923, Mr. Melin went into partnership with Ole E. Anderson as Chevrolet dealers in Warren. They sold in 1938 and Mr. Melin retired.
He was married to Alma Lundeen November 9, 1918. He is survived by his wife and a foster-son Agard (Ida) Johnson of Butte, Montana, Mrs. Oscar (Hanna) Morberg of Alvarado and Mrs. Joe (Celia) Settera of Stockton, California. Three sisters and two bothers preceded him in death. A number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends also mourn his passing.
