Carl E. Mortensen was born on May 1, 1911 in Mason City, IA. As a young child, he moved to the Warren area with his parents. His parents died when he was young and he lived with some of the neighbors. Carl bought a farm in McCrea Twp where he farmed and raised sheep. He also bulldozed and did carpentry work. Carl lived on his own for as long as he could taking care of his farm until he moved to the Hillcrest Nursing Home in 2000. This fall, two of his log cabins were moved to the Marshall County Historical Society grounds.
Carl enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his nephews, Steve, Tim and Cris. He also did many things with his nieces, Vicki, Brenda and Dawn. Carl was very mechanical.
