Services Tuesday for Christ Nelson, Pioneer Resident
Retired Ager Farmer died at Home Here at 78; Had Served in Many Posts
Funeral services for Christ Nelson, 78, who died at his home here Wednesday, are being held Tuesday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the Silver Creek Lutheran church, with Rev. James R. Peterson of Holt officiating. Interment will be made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
Mr. Nelson was born August 11, 1878 at Denmark and at the age of 22 he moved to the states and settled in Marshall county. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Anne Johnson who passed away in 1907. In march 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Bendickson at Germantown, Minn. and she also passed away.
In April 1935 he was united in marriage to Lena Rupprecht at Grand Forks and the past ten years have made their home in this city.
Nelson was very active in community affairs. He was township clerk of Agder township from 1916 to 1938 and also served a number of years as assessor. He served as secretary of the local creamery board and shipping association, and also township chairmann of the AAA during the war. He served on the school board for a number of years and was a member of the Silver Creek Lutheran Church and served as treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his wive, Mrs. Christ Nelson; three daughters, Mrs. Hall Hilles (Edith) of Laurel, MD; Mrs Raymond Knutson (Sibyl) of Goodridge; Mrs. Herman Witt (Alie) of Grygla; Harvey of Wisconsin; Lloyd, Seymore and Clifford of this city; one sister, Mrs. Elnina Sorenson of East Orang, N.J.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Russell (Helen); Mrs. George Poppenhagen (Laura) Mrs. Allen Iverson (Irene) all of this city; five stepsons, Raymond Rupprecht of Pontiac, Mich.; Otto, William, Carl, and Edmond Rupprecht all of this city, 54 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The body will be reposing at the Gulbranson Funeral Home.
