Services for Mrs. Hilma Nelson 88, were held Friday, June 14, in Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla with Rev. Percy Smerek officiating. She died June 10 at Northwest Medical Center.
Burial was in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Agder township. Bearers were Arlen Eidsmoe, Lyle Newton, Michael Rehrn, Robert Wold, Rodney Wold and Roger Wold. Special music was provided by Marie Anderson and Joy Nordby, vocalists and Joy Nordby, organist. Green Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Hilma Bjorlakken was born October 6, 1902, near Malung, the daughter of Hans & Oline (Byre) Bjorlakken. She attended rural school and grew up near Malung in Roseau County. As a young lady she worked for some time as a cook for railroad crews, railroad section crews and in various restaurants. On October 21,1928, she was married to Neal Nelson at Red Lake Falls. The couple lived for a time at Germantown in Marshall County, moving to Pencer where they farmed and later to Grygla where they operated the Nelson Tavern and Restaurant. Her husband died March 18, 1973 and she sold the restaurant the following year.
She is survived by a son, Newman Nelson, of Grygla; two granddaughters; and four great grand children.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, her husband, a brother, Herman, and five sisters, Annie Rood, Rubina Eikeland, Julia Torkelsos, Minnie Hanson and rhea Eidsmoe.
