Ida Nelson, 80, of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Ida Jo Demeyere was born on February 13, 1934, to Albert Emil and Martha (Schwiewe) on their farm north of Alvarado, MN. Ida graduated from Alvarado High School in 1952.
Growing up in a large family, Ida and her siblings learned how to share, work, and care for each other. Being a farmer’s daughter, Ida was truly blessed with a green thumb and was a wonderful cook. In the summertime you could always be assured of a beautiful view of vibrant blooming flowers, a wonderful meal, or a piece of homemade pie for an afternoon snack.
On June 25, 1955, Ida was united in marriage to Marvin Olson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Vega. They made their home in rural Warren, where they farmed (both livestock and grain) and raised their three sons. On August 6, 1973, Marvin passed away. Ida then went to work at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, MN. On June 1982, Ida was united in marriage to Harry Nelson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Warren. They made their home in East Grand Forks, MN, when Harry passed away in October of 1999.
She continued to live in East Grand Forks until May of 2005, when Ida returned to live in the original family farm. Ida was very active in church activities, led a Bible Study for the disabled at the ODC, worked at the Marshall Co. Group Home and The Good Samaritan Center, and worked in the lunch program for WAO School. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW and a member of the Lydia Phoebe circle at Our Savior’s. Ida volunteered her time and talent to many organizations around the community. Ida always loved getting together and sharing a meal with her brothers and sisters, reminiscing about old times.
Left to mourn her passing are three sons, Mark Olson (friend, Laura), Grand Forks, ND, Philip (Denise) Olson, Warren, MN and Rex (Jackie) Olson, Boise, ID; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Abbey, Hilary (Spenser), Sydney, Jessica, Ian and Jack; great-grandson, Tosh; brothers, Stanley (Lois) Demeyere, Russell (Clarice) Demeyere, Arthur (Bonnie) Demeyere, sisters, Edna Huesmann, Frieda (John) Quicker, Margaret (Larry) Ulrich, Roselind (Clyde) Rosten, Caroline Bohach, and Susan (Ron) Carlson; sister-in-law, Rosie Demeyere; and many nieces and nephews.
