Funeral services for Olaf Nerby, 80, who died Tuesday at Northwestern hospital, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Westaker Lutheran church in Newfolden. Rev. Gene Sundby officiated and interment was in the Folden cemetery east of Newfolden. Green Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Stanley Holmaas was organist and Mrs. John Julin and Irene Julin were the vocalists.
Serving as pallbearers were Norman Folden, Melvin Hjelle, Bernhard Nelson, Lester Olson, Hans Hanson and Harvey Hoberg.
Olaf Nerby was born Oct. 11, 1885 in Norway. He immigrated to the United States with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Nyhur when he was 15 years old, settling in Thief River Falls. Here he was employed at a grain elevator until moving several years later to Newfolden to work in an elevator there.
He was united in marriage to Elene Loveid on Oct. 25, 1924. Following their marriage they lived for many years in new Maine township, Marshall county. For the past two years, he had made his home in Thief River Falls.
He is survived by three brothers in Norway and by several nieces and nephews. His wife, Signe, preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1964.
