He was baptized on the home farm in New Solum Township, Marshall County, where he lived almost his whole life. He attended country school for 6 years and a couple more years in Newfolden. His favorite memory about school was playing baseball. After finishing school, David worked on the family farm with his Dad and his brother.
David served his country in the US Army in 1958. He was in the infantry division and stationed out of Fort Carson, CO. He returned home and continued farming. When the farm was at its biggest, it was about 400 acres. They had a dairy operation along with a grain farm. David said his favorite time was harvesting. He really enjoyed farming with his brother and found the hardest time was trying to farm alone.

He was a member of the American Legion, Thief River Falls and Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt. His home away from home was Dee’s Kitchen in Thief River Falls.
