Neuschwander, Arlyne Ann (Kiesow) (1932-2013)

Arlyne Neuschwander of Alexandria, MN, formerly Grygla, MN, age 81 died March 20, 2013 at Knute Nelson Home Care in Alexandria with her loving family at her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Grygla, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow at Saint Clement Catholic Cemetery near Grygla, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Grygla, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at the church.

Arlyne Ann Kiesow was born on January 24, 1932 at home on the family farm in Moylan Township, Marshall County, MN the daughter of Erick and Mary (Cullen) Kiesow. She was baptized at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Goodridge and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Arlyne attended country school in Moylan Township and graduated from the Agriculture College in Crookston, MN in 1949. She worked for a time at Woolworth’s and also and Parkin’s Corner Drug.

On August 23, 1952, Arlyne was united in marriage to Lawrence Kenneth Neuschwander at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN. They purchased their farm in Valley Township, Marshall County, MN where they raised five children: Kenneth, Dale, Susan, Kathy and Ricky. They owned and operated their farm of small grains, dairy and beef cattle, hogs, and horses. When the children were older, Arlyne worked at the Grygla CafĂ©, Steak Knife 2, Marvin Windows & Doors, and at Grygla Senior Center. Lawrence left the farm due to failing health in December 2008 and Arlyne left the farm due to failing health in October 2009. They made their home together at the Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria, MN near their daughter Susan.

Arlyne loved her home and took great pride in making it a loving place for her family. She was known for her sewing, quilt making, baking, and cooking. She was helpful, kind, patient, and had strong integrity and a great sense of humor. Her life revolved around her church and family. Arlyne liked to drive around in her car and visit with family and friends; she especially enjoyed the time together with her grandchildren.

Arlyne was a member of St. Clement’s Catholic Church in Grygla, MN where she was active in ladies’ aide, parish council, lay ministry, was in charge of the church Christmas program, taught religious education and she was on the first list of officers for the St. Clement’s Ladies Guild when it was originally founded in the 1960s. Arlyne served on the planning committee for the new church when it was built in 1992. For many years, she made the quilt which was raffled off as the grand prize at St. Clement’s Fall Supper.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Lawrence of Alexandria; children Kenny (Diane) Neuschwander of Grygla, MN, Dale (Pat) Neuschwander of St. Joseph, MN, Susan (Dan) VanHeel of Alexandria, MN, Kathy (Scott) Nelson of Lancaster, MN and Rick (Nicole Bottem) Neuschwander of Grygla, MN; grandchildren, Seth Neuschwander, Sam Neuschwander, Emilie (Jason) Thoennes, Chelsi (Mark) Langehaug, Blaine Nelson, Blake Nelson, Lauren Neuschwander, Wyatt Neuschwander, Collin Neuschwander; great-grandson, Luke Langehaug; siblings, Lawrence (Irene) Kiesow, Theresa Mutnansky, Charlie (Louann) Kiesow, Phyllis (Floyd) Neuschwander; sister-in-law, Lois (Alden) Hylland; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, relatives and friends.
