Olson, Vernon (1925-2012)

Vernon Olson, 86, of Warren, MN, passed away on Thursday morning, February 2, 2012 at North Valley Health Center in Warren with his family by his side.

Vernon was born September 10, 1925 in Newfolden, MN, the son of Olaf and Agnes (Haugen) Olson. He spent his early years in the Newfolden area before moving with his family to Warren where he graduated from Warren High School. Vernon married Carmen Knoll on November 20, 1949. They made their home in rural Warren. He was a life long farmer. Vernon also worked as a printer at the Warren Sheaf for 45 years. Carmen died on October 10, 2010.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as secretary for many years.

Vernon loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed cutting wood and watching all sports. Vernon played baseball in his younger days.

Left to mourn his passing are four children, Joyce Heaney of Warren, MN, VirJean (Pete) Olmstead of Crookston, MN, JoAnn (Mark) Saunders of Warren, MN and Randy (Brenda) Olson of Oslo, MN; thirteen grandchildren, Shannon Bakken, Shawn (Eric) Hricak, Ryan (Julie) Fenning, Donnie (Donna) Heaney, Francis Ortiz, Rachel (Brian) Burks, Adam (Sarah) Olmstead, Tiffany (Aaron) Rivard, Josh Saunders, Corey (Anthony) Velez, Kaitlin Saunders, Jesse (Roongtina Hongcharti) Olson and Mason Olson (special friend, Vembu Teske); sixteen great-grandchildren, Jamie Bakken, Kasie Bakken, Addison Hricak, Lucas Fenning, Amber Ortiz, Amaya Ortiz, Anthony Tiani, Charlie Burks, Lily Olmstead, Reid Rivard, Aidan Velez, Averi Velez, Madison Olson, Breanna Olson, Quinn Olson, Anathi Olson-Teske and two on the way; two great-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Kayden Ortiz; sister, Eileen Storbakken of East Grand Forks, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carmen, great-grandson, Dakota Dybedahl, son-in-law, Arthur Heaney; brother, Marvin Olson and sister, Delores Jones.
