Joy Overson passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, at the age of 83, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Joy Paulson was born on October 13, 1932, the daughter of Ole and Hazel (Braden) Paulson in Oslo, MN. She grew up in Oslo, attended school, graduating from Oslo High School. Joy was united in marriage to Floyd Overson on August 20, 1950. They made their home in Oslo for many years before moving to Grand Forks in 1977. Joy worked for many years in Civil Service at the Grand Forks Air Base.
For many years Floyd and Joy loved spending time at their lake cabin. She was a longtime member of the Sweet Adeline’s and enjoyed singing throughout her life. She was well known for her cooking and baking and especially loved cake decorating. Their house was never without plenty of baked goods to share with family and neighbors. Joy was an animal lover and was never without a beloved dog in their home. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary.
To be closer to family, Floyd and Joy moved to Moorhead in 2012 where they have lived since that time.
Joy is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Floyd of Moorhead; her son, Reed (Kathie) Overson of Bismarck, ND; and daughter, Natalie Lind (Nola Bayes) of Moorhead, MN; her grandchildren – Farrah Joy (Todd) Marsh of Fargo, Josh (Holly) Overson and Scott (Nancy) Overson of Bismarck, ND; and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers – Allen and Vernon.
