Myrtle M. Powell, 92, of Bemidji died Thursday at her home. Funeral services were at United Methodist Church. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born Jan. 12, 1898, in McCrea Township near Warren to Andrew and Carrie Bengston. She graduated from Warren High School in 1917, then earned a teaching certificate and taught at Fort and Karlstad. She married Ralph Newell Powell Aug. 28, 1921. He died in 1925. After owning a hat shop in Grafton, N.D., for a time, she traveled extensively selling cosmetics and children’s books. She later sold womens’ ready-to-wear and was a buyer and a dress shop manager in Minneapolis, Wayzata, and Brainerd. She retired to Bemidji in 1968 and was a member of the United Methodist Church here.
She is survived by a son, Romaine R. Powell of Bemidji; two grandsons, Charles and James Powell; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel E. Berge and Leone M. Neighbors, both of Litchfield.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dagney Bengston, Ester Malm and Glynn Bengston; a brother, Quentin L. Bengston.
