Mrs. Anna Rand, 74, died following a heart attack about 4 P.M. on Sunday, May 16 at the hotel in Drayton, N. Dak., where she had gone for treatment by her doctor. She had been ill at her home here for about a month, and all her sisters and her brother had been called to her bedside. Her daughter, Mrs. John Tykeson of Kennedy, has been with her here at the home she recently purchased in town. After returning to the hotel lobby from the doctor’s office, Mrs. Rand complained of difficulty in breathing and within a few minutes of being put to bed, had passed away.
Mrs. Rand, nee Anna Koland, was born Feb. 5th, 1874 at Kristiansund, Norway, and immigrated to America with her parents, arriving at Stephen on April 22, 1892. She was married in 1895 to John Strandlund and they made their home in this vicinity for several years. Mr. Strandlund died in 1911, and in 1915 she was again married to Edwin Rand, who passed away about 20 years ago. Mrs. Rand continued to make her home in the country near Karlstad until a year or so ago when she purchased a house in Andereasen’s Addition and moved into Karlstad.
Surviving their faithful and loving mother are the following children: Bertha, Mrs. Carl Hanson of Grand Forks, N.D.; Albin Strandlund, Karlstad: Nettie, Mrs. John Tykeson of Kennedy; Hjalmer Strandlund of Karlstad; Josie, Mrs. Jack Berglund, Grand Forks, and Elof Rand of Karlstad. One son, Conrad, preceded his mother in death. There are also 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rand also leaves one brother, Ole Koland of Karlstad, and three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Peterson, Chinook, Alta, Canada; Mrs. O.J. Jorgenson, Seattle. Wash; and Mrs. John Harstad, Drayton, N.D.
