Orlene Reed, 83, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Tim Bauer officiating.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Johnson Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, MN, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Orlene Clarice Hagglund was born September 1, 1919, at Dugdale, MN, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Skiple) Hagglund. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in Holt, MN. She grew up and attended school in Holt and graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, in 1938. After high school, Orlene worked at the Palm Garden Cafe in Thief River Falls, where she met her future husband, John G. Reed. She was captivated by his “foxy” grin.
Orlene was united in marriage to John Reed on March 4, 1939, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt, MN by Rev. Hanson. The couple lived and raised their family in Holt, from 1940-1957. In 1957 the family moved to Thief River Falls. Orlene worked at Oakland Park Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide for 26 years until she retired at age 73.
Orlene enjoyed being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Trainman’s Auxiliary, her Woman’s Club, Ladies Aid and the Class of 1938 Lunch Gals. She was also a Cub Scout leader. She was an avid reader and loved music. She was a positive person who lived life to the fullest. She was a proud mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and was always available with her wisdom and quick wit.
Survived by daughters, Joan Peterson, Middle River, MN, Diane (Mike) Poole, Hackensack, MN, Carol (Joe) Velasquez, Minneapolis, MN and Ruth (Jerry) Owen, Thief River Falls, MN; son, Grant Reed, Thief River Falls, MN; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, John on April 19, 1973; daughter, Jacqueline; granddaughter, Alison; sisters, Mabel and Ida and brothers, Oscar, Elmer, Ben and Irvin; and parents.
