Agnes “Peggy” Risteigen, 92, Oslo, MN, passed away on January 9, 2015, in the Good Samaritan Center, Warren, MN.
Agnes Helena Nelson was born on January 15, 1922, in Oak Park Township, MN, to Ingvald and Julia (Alstrom) Nelson. She attended school at the local one room schoolhouse and after completing it, worked taking care of local children. She then worked with her sister, Ivy, at the restaurant in Oslo, at a coffee factory in Minneapolis, and at Anthony’s store in Warren.
On February 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Amund “Bobby” Risteigen. The young couple made their home on the farm Bobby’s grandparents homesteaded. Peggy took care of the home and their two children while her husband farmed.
Peggy loved to crochet, make afghans, and quilt, and had made many for her nieces and nephews on their wedding days. She was known for her ability to bake excellent buns and lefse, but shy away from cookies.
Peggy was an active lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was involved in the Quilting Group and the Ladies’ Aide for many years. She also enjoyed her time with the local Homemakers’ Club.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Renee (Dave) Rasmussen of Thief River Falls, MN; son, Todd (Julie) Risteigen of Argyle, MN; sister, Ivy Quern; sister-in-law, Helen Grenlin and Shirley Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Bobby, who passed away three days before her, Peggy was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth and Lester Nelson; sisters, Olga Tinnes and Marian Holter; and several nieces and nephews.
