Vernon Roley, 86, of Warren, MN, died on Friday morning, December 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Warren.
Vernon was born May 9, 1927 in Warren, the son of Richard and Dora (Larson) Roley. He was a lifelong resident of Warren, raised on the family farm. He attended Honorville School through the 8th grade and graduated from Warren High School. Vernon married Shirley Anderson on June 1, 1946. They had four children: Claudia, Becky, Rick and Kim. From an early age, Vernon had a keen interest and ability in electrical wiring. When he was 16 years old, he wired the family’s farm home with electricity. He worked for Best Electric of Thief River Falls before starting his own business, Roley Electric, in 1956. Vernon and Shirley enjoyed many years of good times with family and friends at the their cabin on Lake of the Woods.
He was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Twins, whether they were winning or losing. One of his favorite past times was listening to music. Visitors and staff at the Good Samaritan Center were always greeted by the sound of music playing when they stopped by his room. His mind was continually working on trying to solve brain teasers or playing tricks on unsuspecting grandchildren.
Vernon was a member of First Lutheran Church, Warren Lions Club, Kem Temple and a 52 year member of the Masons.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Claudia Thompson, Becky Bro, Rick Roley and Kim Myhre; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis Roley of Olympia, WA and niece, Karen Bialozor of Longview, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Muriel (Maruska) Roley; great-grandsons, Zachary Burris and Evan Roley and sister-in-law, Mary Elinore Roley.
